Join the Crew host Corey Moss, Maura Quinn, Tim Van Woeart and Jennifer Gertz as they welcome their guests:

Kaleo Lee – Sales Manager – Southwest at BrightSign LLC

Renee Benson – Account Manager – Vertical Sales – Education – NEC Display Solutions

Gabe Moronta – Technical AV Project Manager at Zoom

Harry Meade – Design Engineer

Michael Shinn – AV Industry Consultant

We would like to first introduce our new Crew member Jennifer Gertz! Jennifer is an IT person, however she has decided AV is so great that she can’t wait to talk to all of the outstanding AV people that join us on the show!

After some good old (usual) banter – to begin, as the AV industry knows, there’s really only one AV Grump in town — that being @AVGrump Harry Meade. It seems there is a half-mocking outlier in the industry trying to steal his act – and all we have to say to him is…

After Harry (and the rest of the people) put him down, we decided to give a nod to this @AVGrumpy guy anyway and make the first topic a tweet of his:

“We like most of our industry colleagues are fed up with “ we know it all “ attitude; the let’s sell the client what we think he needs.Wake up,smell the coffee & give people what they want, not what makes your pockets bigger”

Each of the guests discuss this, and Tim does too as he is a Senior Project Supervisor at Rutgers University – yes the end user. Excellent discussion here (that would make any grump proud).

Would you like to cast your vote for the real industry grump? C’mon, that’s an easy one. Bye fake grump.

Next topic: The AV insiders have become a true GIF generation over the past couple of years – what does this mean for the industry? Will this influence young people to join?

Corey, Maura and Jennifer begin to frame this one, and then all join in with their perspectives. Maura pointed something out concerning overdoing it, and one of the guests may have gotten a bit up in arms about it. Who? Think about it. And then you have Tweetstorms…

Final topic: In your chosen field/position – what do you consider the most exciting part to be? The not so much?

More great discussion and perspectives here, and there’s a “p” word also mentioned – we get to the point of that too.

Enjoy this Part 1, and stay tuned for Part 2 (The Firing Range).
