FOMO, the fear of missing out – it seems to be a real thing for so many.
In fact, many fear missing out like they fear missing a bus or train to work, it might overcome them for some reason.
Think of this, what’s one thing that friends talk about in terms of sharing their love for music? Right – concerts. I’ve seen some great ones, and I’ve also missed out on some great ones.
“Hey did you see Rush on their last tour” I was asked once. “No” I said, I caught them on the tour before that, and man were they great.” Yes, there are many great concerts, and sporting events I may not get to while others have experienced them – but just how many of you will be lucky to go to the Super Bowl?
Ok, so granted, in the tech industry, trade shows and events may be a different story than a concert tour or sporting event – yet a trade show is like exhibitors that go on tour, with during and after-hours events that take place, and of course there’s the coffee and beers at the booth. Sure we hate to miss out…
So, not going to ISE next week? Just keep an eye on social media (#ISE2019 on Twitter) – and you’ll actually realize three immediate benefits:
- Not having tired feet
- Not waiting in long lines for coffee and food
- Not having to avoid bicyclists
Oh yes, and do it from the comfort of your office or home where you’re not dealing with crowds and the cold weather. Don’t get me wrong, being at the largest trade show in the AV industry does have numerous benefits, but social media and the publications are around for a reason – to keep you posted, almost as if you’re there.
There you go, no more FOMO. And there are many great trade shows in and around the industry you’ll have the opportunity to go to and see many of the companies – the Digital Signage Expo, Enterprise Connect, InfoComm and more, have those coffees and beers while seeing great industry people.
And heck, maybe you’ll end up going to your favorite one of these soon.
Check out of one Zénith de Nancy’s concerts – pretty cool.
