I recall a phone conversation that I had a little while back with a young woman, discussing AV industry CTS, and her pursuit of it. She had reached out to a few people to discuss it, and I noticed this and reached out to offer to talk about it with her too. I was a CTS in my integration sales days, and of course know the value of it. After we finished discussing this, I invited her on my industry podcast show, which she accepted.  She wasn’t exactly sure what she would contribute and I told her not to worry about it. But contribute she did, and she did a great job.

That young woman is Dayna Baumann, and I told her right there that I saw a young AV professional in the making. She wasn’t in sales, tech or marketing, however what she does, along with many others like her in the industry, is very instrumental in the company’s everyday operations. She is a Customer Relationship Manager – with sales experience – for Control Concepts, a well-known industry audio visual software and services provider, one of the best in the business.

Born and raised in Bergen County, NJ – the place that is, and will always be “home” for Dayna – her favorites are the beach (namely Long Beach Island, NJ – her “happy place”), the color green, and the TV show ‘Full House’ (no judgement folks), watching Christmas movies at any time of year (especially ‘Christmas Vacation’) and spending as much time as possible with family, her boyfriend and friends. She’s also a huge Jets fan as you can see below.

As she likes to say, there’s not much more than what you’ll see at face value – and Dayna herself values being genuine, honest, showing integrity and honoring commitments. She loves to help others where she’s able, hence the “relationship” derived position as Customer Relationship Manager at Control Concepts.

Dayna graduated from Emerson Jr/Sr High School in Emerson, NJ in 2003, and also East Stroudsburg University in 2007 where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications (Media Studies) and a Psychology minor. She has held similar customer relations/sales positions in various industries prior to AV including restaurant, grocery and luxury retail throughout schooling and since graduating.

As for her entry into the AV industry, Dayna had this to say to me:

“Joining AV with a completely clean slate about 2 ½ years ago was a whirlwind transition, and still to this day I feel the combination of ‘wow, I’m really doing this and making leaps along the way’ but also experiencing the struggle of not ever having first hand field or programming involvement to always make connections where needed. I’ll continue to strive to grow from this perspective while happily maintaining the relationship management side of things which is what I enjoy and have always been used to. The wonderfully warm and welcoming people in this industry allow this to happen for me.”

Dayna wrote My First Months in the AV Industry: Learning, Growing and Setting Goals in November, 2015 where she discusses joining the industry with Control Concepts, the people there, and coming to the world of AV from the fashion industry (as she states a “predominantly female industry). She talked about attending two industry events – Almo’s E4 AV Tour and Symco’s Showcase, where as she said she “learned beyond what was exhibited.” She also talked about her goal, that the industry “is able to value my position and my contributions through exceptional service and memorable experiences.”

This goal came to fruition where in 2017, along with already being well-recognized by numerous AV insiders, Dayna became a CI 40 under 40. Along with this came her efforts with FSR Inc. Director of Business Development Education Gina Sansivero (she’s pictured with Dayna below) in putting together WIN events (now AVIXA Women’s Council) in the New York City region, where they are the co-Chairs. Dayna wrote a blog last year Building Upon My AV Industry Knowledge and Skills: The Quest for CTS Certification showcasing the drive and passion that she has to learn, and achieve in the industry.

Cory Schaeffer, one of the true leaders in the AV industry had this to say about Dayna:

Dayna is a “go getter” who doesn’t wait for things to happen, she makes things happen. I’ve been impressed with this young woman from the start. She’s fairly new to our industry, however she already sees the importance of giving back and the best way to get involved. After seeing that a AVIXA Women’s council was forming she immediately offered to lead and support a local group.
